Fibromyalgia and Hormones

Is there a connection?

Can synthetic hormones or natural hormone replacement help your fibromyalgia and hormones? What can homeopathic remedies do for you?

First of all, I do not recommend taking synthetic hormone replacement. They are prescribed in a one-size-fits-all dose (Side note: This has since changed, they now have different doses) that can easily give a person too much of one hormone and leave others unbalanced.

Natural Hormone Replacement is all the buzz these days and up until recently, I was on natural hormones myself.

You can try natural progesterone cream, but what happens is you can easily get too much of the hormone as it builds up over the months. At home, you really do not have the ability to monitor how much is in your system.

I tried natural progesterone cream, based solely on my symptoms after reading the book, "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause". I felt great for about 2 months, then got really tired again. After feeling worse again, I stopped taking the progesterone cream.

Last year, I began seeing an internist who opened a wellness center because he got tired of treating people and not seeing results. He's very holistic, combining western and alternative medicine, and has definitely helped me a lot.

He had my hormone levels checked through saliva testing. This may be the only way to go! Blood levels of hormones can be very deceptive. Saliva testing tells the practitioner "free" levels of hormones that are available for your body to use. But this can also be deceptive, if you are dehydrated.

I had felt better while taking natural hormone replacement than in the previous 18 years, but every time I got my hormone levels checked, they needed to increase my doses (I'm was on natural progesterone in a time-released tablet taken 2 times/day on days 14-28 of my menstrual cycle, and natural testosterone in a capsule taken once a day, every day. I also took dhea 25 mg/day, and Armour Thyroid 120mg/day.

For better, more natural fibromyalgia help and hormone management, you want to boost your body's own production of hormones. Check out The Wellness Center for Research and Education, Inc. where you can find out more information on fibromyalgia and hormones. This website is run by Dr. Theresa Dale who is a Naturopathic Physician. She maintains that when you start supplying hormones from the outside (this goes for the hormone insulin given to diabetics also), whether natural or synthetic, your body stops producing the supplied hormones. The body registers that there is hormone already present, so it doesn't need to make any of the artificially supplied hormone.

And there are so many other problems people experience related to the body not producing balanced hormone amounts like PMS, menopausal symptoms, and endometriosis.

Liver Health related to Fibromyalgia and Hormones

Before I get more into fibromyalgia, hormones, and homeopathic hormone boosters, there's an important factor in hormone production, especially as you age: a clear liver.

You see, the body produces small amounts of hormones after the ovaries are done producing. This is why our ancestors did not have problems with menopause. Nor did they have fibromyalgia and hormones issues. Their livers were clear and producing the amounts they needed.

Fast forward to our times, where chemicals are everywhere and nutrients in foods are lacking, and you can understand why our livers are overworked and clogged.

There are a number of ways out there to clean our your liver, but my product of choice is this combination of 3 herbs that work synergistically to get results in just 1-4 months (depending on how clogged up you are!), and take it one month/year to maintain after that.

After you get cleared up, begin the homeopathic hormone boosters. Dr. Dale from the Wellness Center has formulated homeopathic lotions that boost your natural hormone production, helping your fibromyalgia and hormones. They are called ENDOPURE HORMONE REJUVENATION PACK and are dispensed in an accurate pump, to boost your body's own ability to produce needed hormones. I find this even more natural than natural hormone replacement. It also means you won't have to take it for the rest of your life, if you can get your own hormones working again. That's really the way nature intended, don't you think?

You can use these homeopathic lotions, as the need is shown by your saliva tests (the above link will allow you to skip saliva testing). Your results may not be as life-changing as natural hormone replacement, but you will also not have to take it forever and it can make all of your symptoms manageable--in the most natural way.

One nice thing about homeopathy is that it can't hurt you. There are no side effects. The quantities given are so minute and are basically used to wake up your body and get it working again.

I've also looked into the homeopathic HGH (Human Growth Hormone) remedies found on the internet these days. I've been hesitant to try these. If this is not the hormone that you are lacking in, it will be ineffective. But I have heard good reports about helping fibromyalgia and hormones with homeopathic HGH--from one product.

What I like about Dr. Dale and The Wellness Center is that you no longer have to test first to find out what you need and the homeopathic lotions help all hormone levels that are found to be lacking, not just one. Nice!

I'm a strong believer in homeopathic medicines. I've used them for my kids for everything from teething to coughs and colds. I've used them for myself for sinus infections, coughs, and the flu. They boost the body's own ability to fight things off, instead of covering up symptoms or lowering the body's ability to fight.

If (or should I say when) I find a source for the brands that I find effective, I will provide these on this website.

It just occurred to me that most of us, including me, probably do not realize that birth control pills, shots, and patches are putting synthetic hormones into our body, just like hormone replacement for menopause. The new one that allows you to only have four menstrual periods a year really scares me!

Having been on "the pill" for 12 years, I now look back at this period of putting synthetic hormones into my body as probably (in my opinion) where all my hormone problems started.

I've been doing Natural Family Planning for the last 12 years. It's a lot better for your health.
